Multiple domain names don’t help SEO

Back in the old days, well, a few years ago, having multiple domains was seen as a good way of building your organic ranking. That’s always been a bit tenuous if you ask me: unless those domain names were actually linked from different places I don’t see why Google would have given you any extra authority for having them.

In fact that might have counted against you;  “duplicate content” is something that Search Engines hate.

There ARE good reasons for holding multiple domain names, but usually just as a protection against other people hold them, or in case people mistype a domain.

ADVICE

If you are sat on a portfolio of old domain names then when they come up for renewal put some serious thought into whether it is worth renewing them or not.
